24th World Congress on Osteoarthritis

Osteoarthritis Research Society International (OARSI) is a global organization focused on the prevention and treatment of osteoarthritis (OA) through the promotion and presentation of research, education and the dissemination of new data. Earlier in May OARSI hosted the 24th World Congress on Osteoarthritis in Toronto, Canada for which ANRF was a sponsor and exhibitor. This global forum brings together those from academia and industry focused on cutting edge OA research.

Highlights from this congress for 2019 includedinter-disciplinary plenary sessions on Machine Learning, Mechanotransduction Pathways, and the Transition from Acute to Chronic Pain. Dr Clifford Rosen delivered the Keynote Lecture on Pathogenic Mechanisms of Obesity-Induced Osteoarthritis: New Clues from Old Joints on the opening evening. Importantly, features from upcoming OARSI Treatment Guidelines were also presented.

In addition to the wealth of knowledge and data presented there were a number of pre-congress workshops including sessions that focused on the spine and on prevention of post-traumatic OA in sport and the military. ANRF along with OARSI recognizes the importance of encouraging collaborations as well as supporting new up and coming researchers. To this end the congress included a mentorship session hosted by The Young Investigator Committee. ANRF was pleased to be able to contribute meaningfully to this conference assisting the talented young researchers, providing them the opportunity to learn from those more experienced as well as encouraging the dissemination of their own research and discoveries.

“Thanks to the generous sponsorship support received from ANRF, OARSI was able to provide travel support for nine (9) Young Investigators to attend the 2019 World Congress on Osteoarthritis.  The recipients were selected based on abstract ratings and were then offered the opportunity to present their work at the Highest Rated Young Investigator Abstracts session.  This is one of our most popular and well attended sessions at the World Congress.”  – Executive Director OARSI, Diann Stern.

This congress brought together an international network of individuals from multiple disciplines all with the goal of reaching a more in depth understanding of OA to prevent, better manage and eventually cure OA. ANRF is proud to partner with OARSI and would like to congratulate them on an extremely successful 24th World Congress on Osteoarthritis.
