About us

The Arthritis National Research Foundation (ANRF) mission is to provide initial research funding to brilliant, investigative scientists with new ideas to cure arthritis and related autoimmune diseases. Since 1970, the Arthritis National Research Foundation has funded arthritis research to understand the causes, prevention, and development of new treatments for osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, juvenile arthritis, and other autoimmune diseases. The Arthritis National Research Foundation provides arthritis research grants to scientists at major universities and research institutes across America. One- and two-year arthritis research grants allow these newer scientists to develop their important research to a stage where it can be continued and further supported by other national agencies.

Position
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) the Director of Marketing and Events will be responsible for all communication efforts for the Foundation, including but not limited to, creation of annual marketing plans to support research and development efforts, oversight of websites and social media, monthly email and newsletter blasts and more. In addition, the Director will produce events and programs that amplify the Foundation’s mission and garner interest from corporate and individual supporters.

 

Specific responsibilities include:

General Marketing & Communications

  • Collaborate with CEO to develop marketing and communications plans to promote resources, research, publications, and public awareness that garner more interest from constituents and corporate partners
  • Increase awareness for research awards, including preparation and dissemination of press releases, email campaigns, blog posts, etc
  • Manage website, in conjunction with Director of Finance and Operations including: maintain integrity of website content and structure; monitor and report on key metrics from Google Analytics; and utilize Search Engine Optimization
  • Write and edit content for ANRF websites and email marketing efforts, including monthly newsletter, campaign messages and fundraising e-appeals
  • Maintain communications editorial calendar for ANRF staff use for web, email and social media
  • Manage and produce the Annual Report
  • Assist in the Design and production of marketing materials such as brochures, posters, etc

 

Social Media Management

  • Manage all aspects of ANRF’s social media presence (website, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube) including content creation for tweets, posts and videos
  • Drive strategy to increase daily engagement on social media accounts
  • Work with staff and contractors to develop and implement social networking strategies, and monitor and respond to inquiries

 

Data & Analytics

  • Monitor, report and present on online engagement analytics (web, email, social media, earned media)
  • Leverage key engagement metrics across platforms to optimize content, messaging and distributions

 

Public Relations

  • Develop and implement an integrated strategic communications plan to advance brand identity, broaden awareness of program and increase visibility across key stakeholder audiences
  • Serve as primary media contact; Develop and implement PR strategies including media outreach, issuing press releases, fielding media inquiries and creating and maintaining media lists.
  • Act as “brand ambassador”, ensuring proper and consistent use of naming conventions, brand attributes and logo
  • Prepare photography and other media for publication and maintain digital media library

 

Events

  • Manage programs/events – including meet the scientist, alumni gatherings, exhibit booth at annual conferences, research symposium
  • Create invitations and other communications
  • Prepare, attend, and help facilitate details at actual meetings
  • Oversee ANRF scholars program

 

Support of Development

  • Develop programs, events and advertising that help to garner support from corporate partners

 

Other

  • Other duties as assigned
  • Manage staff as needed
  • Oversee and maintain department budget

 

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of relevant professional experience in communications and/or marketing, preferably in a nonprofit organization
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as journalism, public relations or communications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (candidates selected to interview will be required to complete written performance exercise)
  • Strong attention to detail and proofreading skills
  • Proven results in implementing marketing and communications strategic plans
  • Proven results in managing social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, etc.) and analytics technologies (Sprout Social, Tweetreach, Meltwater, etc.) to engage a diverse audience
  • Familiarity with CMS platforms and basic HTML (WordPress, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while managing deadlines
  • Tech savvy; proficient in MS Office, Google platforms, Adobe Creative Suite
  • Experience with graphic design and website management
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal oversight
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills
