Dr. Massimo Bottini – Nanomedicine & RA [Part 1]

Dr. Massimo Bottini – Nanomedicine & RA [Part 1]

Arthritis Now sat down with Dr. Massimo Bottini, a researcher and bio-engineer who splits his time between the University of Rome Tor Vergata and the Sanford Burnham Medical Research Institute in San Diego, CA, talks about his current project on targeting RA cells using nanomedicine.

Nanomedicine targets cells on a molecular level and has the ability to go after only the ones that are affected, in this case, with rheumatoid arthritis. Dr. Bottini’s hope is to target these affected RA cells in sufferers’ bodies, leaving their other cells untouched so the proper treatment protocol can be administered to the infected ones. In turn, the amount of medication patients take will likely be reduced, if successful.
