Dr. Jawaheer – Pregnancy & RA [Part 2]

We continued our interview with Dr. Damini Jawaheer of Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute, where she is an assistant scientist studying the genetic correlation between pregnancy and rheumatoid arthritis and how the disease goes into remission when women become pregnant. She further explains her research and the benefit of being able to study actual pregnant patients of RA instead of having to use animals models to test possible treatments, and then having to test on humans later on.

She also answered questions from ANRF followers and frequent viewers of Arthritis Now, further demonstrating that her goal is to use pregnancy’s natural suppression of arthritis symptoms as a model to try and replicate the genetic factors responsible so that a universal cure for RA can be found.
