- [Lupus Research | Finding The Causes of Lupus](https://curearthritis.org/lupus-research/): Initially, in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, the tissues being attacked are different from RA; however, in later stages, the diseases become very similar. ANRF funded research on the pathology and causes of lupus is revealing new approaches towards developing therapies and a cure.The Arthritis National Research Foundation has funded research on lupus for over 30 years, including renowned researchers like Betty Tsao, PhD, a leading geneticist at UCLA. Dr. Tsao is the first scientist to tie a specific human chromosome region to increased risk of developing Systemic Lupus Erythematosus. This is a major step for lupus research towards predicting susceptibility to lupus and understanding how to prevent the onset of symptoms.

- [Accountability & Governance](https://curearthritis.org/success-accountability/): The Arthritis National Research Foundation requires a progress report from grant recipients halfway through their one-year grant term. Upon review and approval by members of the Scientific Advisory Board, the second half of the grant amount is paid. A final narrative and financial accounting report is due from grant recipients to ANRF within six weeks of the end of the grant term. As part of their grant agreement, grant recipients must reference the support from the Arthritis National Research Foundation in any publication of work resulting from their ANRF-funded study.

I have a Master’s Degree focused on study design and analysis, and a Ph.D. on Molecular Medicine. During the last five years, I have been studying the role of B cells in patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, designing and performing experiments to study B cell biology. I have published on B cell tolerance in SLE and described a phenotype of antigen experienced autoreactive B cells in patients with SLE.

- [Steve Granger, Ph.D.](https://curearthritis.org/scientists/steve-granger-phd/): Dr. Steve Granger is Chief Scientific Officer at Salimetrics, LLC.  He earned his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at the University of California, Irvine, followed by post-doctoral training at the La Jolla Institute for Allergy & Immunology, where his research efforts focused on the immunobiology of the tumor necrosis family (TNF) superfamily.  Dr. Granger spent many years in the biotechnology industry working at Tanabe Research Laboratories USA, Inc. as a Senior Director of research and at Kyowa Hakko Kirin California as a Senior Research Scientist.  During this time, he managed preclinical biologic drug development programs for the treatment of autoimmune and chronic inflammatory disorders. Additionally, he led several drug discovery projects for the treatment of osteo- and rheumatoid arthritis, as well as inflammatory bowel disease.  One fully human monoclonal antibody identified from these studies is in clinical trials for chronic inflammatory diseases. Dr. Granger is currently leading the R&D team at Salimetrics, LLC. generating new oral fluid diagnostic assays.
