SBP Insights Event: New Approaches to Autoimmune Diseases

Sanford Burnham Prebys (SBP) – Medical Discovery Institute is a leading non-profit organization that conducts independent biomedical research in the fields of immunology, neuroscience, cancer and rare children’s diseases. SBP endeavors to understand the cause of numerous diseases using rigorous scientific approachs to accelerate new breakthroughs and improve therapies that will directly benefit patients. As with ANRF, SBP recognizes the advantages of collaborating with other institutes with similar goals and research interests. Dr. Carl Ware is both the Director of the Infectious and Inflammatory Diseases Center and Professor of Immunity and Pathogenesis Program at SBP. Additionally, he fulfills the role of the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) Chairman at ANRF.

On June 20, 2019, SBP will host the SBP speaker series “Immunology: New Approaches to Autoimmune Diseases.” Our own CEO, Dr. Zaher Nahle, will be moderating this important event that features Dr. Carl Ware, Dr. Hal Hoffman (SAB) and arthritis patient and athlete Angela Durazo. Notably, this event is part of the prestigious speaker series – SBP Insights, which are community-wide events open to the public. The aim of the series is to cover disease topics from a variety of angles, featuring clinician, research and patient/caregiver perspectives. Each viewpoint will be explored before covering how they interact to give a 360° assessment of tactics used in the fight against autoimmune diseases. The floor will then be opened for questions from the audience. As moderator, Dr. Nahle will put forward contributions by ANRF and its collaborators.

The session will be at the SBP Auditorium on their campus on the Torrey Pines Mesa between 5.30 p.m. – 7.00 p.m. These events provide an important platform for multiple stakeholders in the autoimmune disease field to come together, sharing the latest research and stimulating new ideas towards improving treatment options and modalities.
