Dr. Elizabeth Mellins brings broad expertise in immunology and autoimmunity to the Scientific Advisory Board. Clinically trained as a pediatric rheumatologist, Dr. Mellins has devoted her career to research on autoimmune forms of arthritis, and particularly on the role of MHC class II molecules as inherited risk factors for autoimmune disease.

She earned her M.D. from Harvard Medical School in 1973 and has been at Stanford University since 1996. Dr. Mellins was an ANRF grant recipient in 1998.

Dr. Mellins has mentored over 20 doctor trainees in her laboratory and most continue to be involved in research related to immunobiology and rheumatic diseases. She was a founder of the Childhood Arthritis & Rheumatology Research Alliance (CARRA) and was its first chairperson. CARRA is a North American organization of more than 400 pediatric rheumatologists, researchers and research coordinators who are working together to find treatments for juvenile arthritis and other diseases of the joints, muscles, and bones in children
