Dr. Buxbaum is head of the division of Research Rheumatology and the W. M. Keck Autoimmune Disease Center at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California. In addition, Dr. Buxbaum is a professor in the Department of Molecular and Experimental Medicine. For 19 years prior to his present appointment, Dr. Buxbaum was a professor of medicine at the NYU School of Medicine.
Dr. Buxbaum earned his M.D. degree from Tufts University in Boston in 1962. His early career included research and clinical work in the U.S. military, as well as two NIH fellowships studying immunology and cell biology.
His research work has spanned nearly 40 years: Dr. Buxbaum was director of the Laboratory of Molecular Pathogenesis in the New York VA Medical Center from 1971-2000, and a member of the graduate faculty, Department of Pathology at NYU School of Medicine from 1976-2000. He currently serves on several rheumatology journal editorial boards and travels extensively as a visiting lecturer.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
