Arthritis Awareness Month!

May is Arthritis awareness month and an important time to advocate and spread awareness about the many forms of Arthritis and associated Autoimmune Diseases.

In this issue, you will read about ANRF’s recent participation in the 24th World Congress on Osteoarthritis in Toronto, organized by the Osteoarthritis Research Society International (OARSI) – a global organization focused on the prevention and treatment of osteoarthritis (OA) through research, education and the dissemination of credible data. We also feature promising work by current ANRF awardee, Dr. Mohamad Khass, focusing on the interplay between the immune system and Bone fragility. That in addition to highlights of all 2018 ANRF Scholars and their work as we get ready to welcome the new 2019 cohort. Useful information related to our new awareness campaign – Race for a Cure; and tips on living with arthritis and the quality of life are also included.

Importantly, in this publication we remember the meaningful life of Deanna La Camera, a staunch supporter of ANRF, and celebrate her legacy.

On June 20th, you are all invited to a free public event taking place at the prestigious Sanford Burnham Prebys (SBP) Medical Discovery Institute on the key topic of Immunity: New approaches to Autoimmune Diseases. I will have the privilege of moderating this event featuring ANRF Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) chair, Dr. Carl Ware, and SAB member, Dr. Hal Hoffman, alongside ANRF supporter, patient advocate and award-winning actress, Angela Durazo. This will be a unique 360-degree discussion on cutting-edge research, new treatment modalities and importantly the patient’s perspective in all this. All are welcome and I hope to see you there!
