Dr. Hahn is currently Professor of Medicine and Chief, Division of Rheumatology, at the UCLA School of Medicine. She has also been vice-chair for Faculty Affairs, Department of Medicine, since 1997. Dr. Hahn is a world-renowned researcher and lecturer, who has served the public and professional communities locally and nationally in a variety of volunteer positions, including President of the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) in 1998-99.

 

Dr. Hahn earned her M.D. degree from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1964. In an academic career highlighted by many honors and awards, Dr. Hahn has emphasized a continuing theme of her research work, identification of immune abnormalities characteristic of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE or lupus). She has also concentrated her efforts on expanding clinical investigations of patients with SLE, as well as maintaining clinical care for patients at UCLA.

 

Dr. Hahn publishes many scientific research papers annually, as well as book chapters, opinion articles and abstracts. She has worked tirelessly through the ACR to increase the number of rheumatologists serving the public nationally, advocate for better patient care, and increase the role of basic science in ACR educational activities.
